- While overall employment in the State of Utah increased 8.18% between 1997 and 2002, employment within the construction industry rose by 21.09%, creating 11,768 new construction jobs as well as creating 1,099 new construction establishments in 5 years.
- While the average worker in Utah brought home $28,477 in pay in 2002, the state’s construction workers made on average $30,483, an increase of 6.58% more than the average worker in Utah.
- The number of businesses in Utah grew from 42,076 in 1997 to 49,196 in 2002, an increase of 16.92%. Construction establishments in Utah however, increased by 15.08% from 7,288 in 1997 to 8,387 in 2002.
- Of the 7,120 new businesses established between 1997 and 2002 in Utah, 1,099 or 15.44% of those establishments were in the construction industry.
- According to Union Membership and Coverage Database, available at www.unionstats.com, in 2006, only 4.2 percent of Utah’s private construction workforce belonged to a construction trade union. That means that approximately 96 out of 100 Utah’s private construction workers do not belong to a labor union.
